Blog Post #12 - Final Blog Post

There are a lot of pros and cons when it comes to technology. While technology can bring a ton of positives and help people in many ways, there are also concerns and times when it is not looked at in a positive way. Every upside also has a downside, and social media is definitely one of those things.

I personally think my relationship with social media is healthy. I started using technology in middle school, and it has never been a problem for me. I started using it to contact my parents when I needed to, which was always helpful and never became a problem. My social life became better as well because I was able to call and text my friends. Safari and Google have helped me be able to do research and look up questions, and easily get an answer. School work has also been online for awhile now, and I notice recently more and more assignments have started to be online, In high school we used Google Classroom, and now since being here we have used Blackboard. This makes things quick and easy for students, and I assume it does for teachers as well. Also being able to communicate through email, rather than only being able to talk to professors in person.

As I started to get older, I started using social media, not only to post about myself, but also to communicate with my friends in other ways like through snapchat. Now, I use platforms such as Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and LinkedIn, which all are beneficial in different ways. LinkedIn is important to have as it can potentially get you a job or important connections. Instagram and Tik Tok are fun apps and can also be informational when used the correct way. LinkedIn is important to have as it can potentially get you a job or important connections. Instagram and Tik Tok are fun apps when used the correct way. I enjoy seeing what my friends are up to, and enjoy posting on the platforms as well. Sometimes these apps can have downsides though.

These are the apps that can start situations such as cyberbullying, hurtful comments, jealously, etc. As fun as it seems to see what your friends are always up to, it is common to also see things you do not wish to see which can turn in to a negative effect of technology.

I think that for the most part, technology has been useful in my life, but there have definitely been times when something was posted and I felt jealous, anxious, or upset. Also, I notice myself spending too much time on my phone often. This can get in the way of completing school work, not getting things done, and finding yourself on your phone when out with friends or family or an important situation which does not require cell phone use.

Technology is very useful when needing information. It is just a click away to find out the answer to a question which can be very helpful and help us learn a lot of important information. On the other hand, technology can also be misleading or give opinions instead of facts, making it easy for people to get confused or accept the wrong answer.

I have always been careful of what I post online, because what you post stays with you forever. Because of this, if my employer was looking at my social media or looked me up online, there would not be any issues. When I google myself, it is not extremely easy to find me, but as you scroll a bit my LinkedIn pops up.

I believe that as a society technology is important and can help us learn information, stay in touch, communicate, and improve education. It is often hard to have all positives  and no negatives, so I believe technology overall is important and helpful.
